LISTER heat flow investigation

Built in-house by Texas Tech University

LISTER is the Lunar Instrumentation for Subsurface Thermal Exploration with Rapidity from Texas Tech University, selected by NASA on 20 January 2026 under PRISM for a CLPS delivery in 2028 or later.

Seiichi Nagihara at Texas Tech University is principal investigator. Texas Tech Now on 27 January 2026 calls this selection LISTER 3. NASA dates the CLPS delivery in 2028 or later and will assign the delivery task order later.

Mission brief

NASA says a previous LISTER flew on Blue Ghost Mission 1, took eight temperature and thermal conductivity measurements, and drilled about three feet.

Schematic

The drill pauses to measure temperature changes and how well the subsurface material conducts heat.
